22 мая Глава Мордовии Артём Здунов convened a working meeting to address the pressing issue of pollution in the Алатырь river, particularly in the Ичалковский and Ромодановский regions. The meeting gathered experts from relevant agencies, oversight organizations, and local administrations.
Participants provided detailed reports on the history of the situation, the actions taken so far, and the current state of affairs. Minister of Forestry, Game Management, and Nature Use of Mordovia, Адель Галиуллин, shared critical insights. To identify the sources of pollution, prosecutors from Ичалковский and Ромодановский areas, in collaboration with specialists from the Ministry of Natural Resources, are conducting inspections at enterprises discharging wastewater into tributaries of Алатырь—particularly the Инсар and Татар-Веленьлей rivers. Water samples have been collected from various bodies of water.
Reports were also heard from Татьяна Харитонова, head of the Роспотребнадзор in Mordovia, Александра Кармайкина, deputy head of the Interregional Management of Росприроднадзор for the Нижегородская region and Mordovia, and Александра Горячева, the chief of the state control and oversight department of the Волго-Камское territorial management of the Federal Agency for Fisheries.
The acting Chairman of the Government of Mordovia, Батыр Эмеев, emphasized that besides factory inspections and their wastewater treatment facilities, monitoring for unauthorized waste discharges into these water bodies is underway. He proposed the formation of a task force, including representatives from various state and regulatory agencies, as well as leaders of industrial enterprises.
Артём Здунов approved this initiative and laid out several directives aimed at identifying sources of waste discharges, as well as deadlines for responsible parties to report on their findings and potential ramifications. Further actions are needed to clarify the circumstances of the incident and assess the resultant damage. All responsible agencies must collaborate closely, and a thorough examination of the situation is paramount. Once the facts are established, the accountable parties will be named. Additionally, he mandated regular water testing in the Алатырь during the swimming season.
"We must take every necessary step to identify those responsible for the current crisis and prevent a recurrence," emphasized the head of the region.
